DEGREE PROGRAMS

 

LOWER PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER TRAINING

Type of training: Full-time and correspondence courses, state subsidized or privately financed

Level of the degree to be issued: bachelor (BA)

Professional qualification: Primary school teacher (lower grade)

Duration: Both full-time and correspondent courses: 8 semesters.

The objective of training: The aim is to train experts who are capable of teaching 1st through 6th grade children, after acquiring a profound theoretical knowledge, competencies and skills. These experts are able to teach all subjects in grades 1-4 and are able to teach one subject in grades 1-6 they studied as their field of specialization at the college.

What does the college offer?

  • A complex training for lower primary school teachers including social sciences (religious subjects as well) Hungarian language and literature, Natural Sciences, Math, Music, Visual and Physical Education Training in connection with subject-pedagogy and practicum.
  • The academic pedagogical and psychological training prepares students to know and develop children between the age of 6 -12.
  • Training on methodology and the practicum makes students aware of directing children between 6-12 and the need to develop their personality.

Specializations

Specialization (not obligatory)

  • Primary school teacher training with German ethnic minority specialization
  • Primary school teacher training with Roma ethnic minority specialization

One of the following modules that determine the character of the college, must be chosen:

  • Foreign language (German, English, Lovari),
  • Child Protection,
  • Education of environmental awareness, Environmental sustainability,
  • Integrated inclusive education,
  • Knowledge of tradition,
  • Drama

One of the following modules must be chosen that prepare teachers to teach a suitable subject in 5th and 6th grade:

  • Man and society,
  • Hungarian grammar and literature,
  • Music,
  • Physical education,
  • Visual education,
  • Foreign language (English),
  • Mathematics,
  • Environmental studies

Postgraduate possibilities:

After obtaining their diploma, our students have the possibility to continue their education at the MA level. Our college offers a variety of specialization courses for lower grade teachers.

Work Possibilities:

Lower grade teachers can teach in grades 1 through 4 in all previously mentioned areas with the exception of foreign languages. In grades 5 and 6 graduates can only teach within their selected subjects.

Students who have specialized in a foreign language can teach in grades 1 through 6.

Students with a lower grade teaching degree can work in a library or cultural institution.

They can also participate in business life, within tourism, in directing community work, in supporting minorities in settlement development and fulfilling organizing tasks.

 

PRE-SCHOOL TEACHER TRAINING

Type of training: Full-time and correspondence courses, state subsidized or privately financed

Level of the degree to be issued: bachelor (BA)

Professional qualification: Pre-school teacher

Duration: Both full-time and correspondent courses: 6 semesters.

The objective of training: The aim is to train experts who are capable of and dedicated to educating children of 3-7 years of age, after acquiring profound theoretical knowledge, competencies and skills.

What can you learn at the college?

  • subjects that include information and relation of nature and society.
  • subjects that provide information on pedagogy and psychology that helps to understand children of 3-7 years of age.
  • complex knowledge that prepares for the profession of a pre-school teacher; concerted theoretical and methodological science.
  • integrated science and art that students can use effectively in practice.
  • students can also learn about language acqusition and learning between the ages of 3-8.

Work Possibilities:

The pre-school teacher degree  entitles the holder to fulfill positions at pre-schools under different ownership (local council, church foundation and private). Feedback about finding a workplace is very assuring; our students have had a great selection to choose from in the past years. Students in their third year can already obtain a job. Work possibilities change regionally. Student who graduate from our college have the advantage of finding a position at a Catholic pre-school.

 

SOCIALPEDAGOGY

Type of training: Full-time and correspondence courses, state subsidized or privately financed

Level of the degree to be issued: bachelor (BA)

Professional qualification: Social pedagogist

Duration: Both full-time and correspondent courses: 7 semesters.

The objective of training: To train experts who are capable of working in institutions that help educational and social services, who can treat the problems of children, young people (youth) and their families in a complex way.

What can students learn here?

Main subjects:

  • Pedagogy (e.g. Pedagogy of Ages, Drama Pedagogy, Skill Development, Pedagogy of Games and Free time, Special Education)
  • Social Work (with individuals, groups and communities)
  • Psychology (e.g. Spiritual Development, Social Psychology, Family Psychology)
  • Social Politics (e.g. Social Inequalities)
  • Social Sciences (e.g. General Sociology, Ethics)
  • Legal studies
  • Further professional subjects such as Family Care, Romology and Crisis Intervention

Social Pedagogy is basically a practice-oriented social training, In the second term students visit institutions twice, to get familiar with the work of social pedagogists, and in the following terms students take part in one-to two-week- longinternship. In the 7th semester there is a continuous 360 hour-long-field practice.

Postgraduate possibilities:

After having obtained their diploma, our students can continue their education in specialized courses or at MA level.

Work possibilities:

According to the Child Protection Act social experts with college or university degrees are needed in all social areas e.g.:  Family counseling, family protection, school and pre-school protection, youth homes, court guardians, etc.

 

MAJOR OF CHURCH CANTOR

Type of training: State subsidized or individually financed correspondence course

Level of the degree to be issued: bachelor (BA)

Professional qualification: Church Cantor

Duration: 6 semesters.

Objective of training: To to train music experts who are ready to fulfill the music service of the church and can convey the biblical message in song and music; to provide such theoretical and practical skills which enable the students to lead activities of the church congregation of different ages.

What main subjects can participants learn:

  • Music Studies: solfeggio-theory of music, music harmony, counter point and
  • transposition-score reading, playing the organ, piano, Gregorian, church music and folk songs.
  • Choral conducting - choir conducting practice, voice lesson, history of music.
  • Theological – liturgical studies, Latin language.
  • Pedagogical, psychological studies and Information Technology

Internship:

  • Summer practice in Harmat Artur Central Cantor Training Institute
  • Practice during the year: (Advent, Christmas, Passion Week, Easter) in designated churches

Foreign language Requirements

In order to obtain the basic- level degree, students are required to obtain minimum one intermediate B2 level complex language examination certificate or equivalent with this exam a high school diploma or certificate

 

VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMS OF HIGHER EDUCATION

Prerequisites: Ordinary level school-leaving examination

Duration: 4 semesters

Type of training: Full-time, evening and correspondence courses, state subsidized or privately financed

Credits to be obtained to get the Diploma of Higher Vocational Education: 120

The ratio of theoretical and practical teaching: 55%/45%

 

INFANT AND EARLY CHILDHOOD VOCATIONAL PROGRAM

The name of the program: Infant and Early Childhood Education at ISCED level5

Professional qualification: Infant and Early Childhood Educator Assistant

POSTGRADUATE COURSES AT THE ADULT EDUCATION CENTRE

The Adult Education Center at Apor Vilmos Catholic College provides many postgraduate opportunities in continuing education. These courses are intended for people who wish to deepen and expand their existing knowledge and also to acquire new skills, competencies.
